Dr. Frauke Alves is working as independent scientific group leader and oncologist at the Dept. of Haematology and Oncology. Her group has extensive experience in basic research in SCID and nude mice through the investigation of the functional role of metastasis associated genes and the evaluation of the preclinically potency of novel anti-cancer agents. They have established in cooperation with the Dept. of Diagnostic Radiology and General Electrics (G.E.) different imaging techniques.: a four laser based time-domain fluorescence imager in the NIR region, the eXplore optix, the high resolution fpVCT (both from G.E. Healthcare), a luminescence imager and the in vivo fluorescence microscope OV110 (Olympus). Software was developed to coregister data obtained by in vivo NIR imaging and by fpVCT. Fusion of both imaging techniques allows to correlate anatomical structures to biological processes. Further equipment includes FACS scanner, cell sorter FACS, Laser Scanning Cytometry Technology as well as NIR and Confocal Laser Scanning Microscopy, Fluorescence Resonance Energy Transfer Technology, Total and Multifocal 2-Photon Laser Scanning Microscopy.
